Dear Blog readers,
As you know from the final message posted by Francois Marier last October, the HNS Correspondence Group has finished its work and delivered on all its planned outcomes.
The last of them is in fact going to be delivered very soon in the form of a workshop that has been organised by IMO in cooperation with the IOPC Funds and which will take place on 26-27 April 2018 at the IMO HQ.
It is still possible to register for the workshop via the IMO website and I recommend that you use this opportunity to attend and contribute to its success.
A number of interesting developments have been taking place over the last year, including the first ratification by Norway, the European Council Decision asking European Member States to accede to the 2010 HNS Convention and the information we get from a number of States showing progress towards ratification. In fact we expect some to take place in the next weeks!
This Blog, although first established to facilitate communication among the members of the Correspondence Group, will continue to be available moving forward. We believe that having a platform where people can share information or ask questions could be useful for all readers and we will endeavor to provide answers whenever possible.
Finally, in order to make that tool more user-friendly, we are currently reviewing the setup and we’ll keep you posted of any developments.
Dear HNS Correspondence Group members,
We have been approached by the Italian delegation to the IOPC Funds with a request to contact the HNS Correspondence Group about a workshop on the HNS Convention being organised in Italy later this year.
It is being organised by the Italian Interdepartmental Committee on IOPC Funds, under the auspices of the Prime Minister’s Office, and will take place on Friday 10 October 2014, in Rome.
The workshop is intended to facilitate States’ preparations for the ratification of the 2010 HNS Protocol, with particular emphasis on the practicalities of the Convention as they relate to entry into force. One objective is to alert the various branches of the Administration as well as the private sector to the specificities of the implementation requirements introduced by the HNS Protocol. Other aspects will include a regional dimension, providing some insights into specific issues related to the Mediterranean. But overall, it is clearly an event to maintain the momentum towards early entry into force, provide another opportunity for discussions among States and other interested stakeholders and generally raise the awareness about this important topic.
Dear Correspondence Group Members,
Since this is the very first time that I am posting a message to the blog, first of all I would like to extend my appreciation to Mr. Liebert as well as Mr. Marier for their contributions and finally to Ms. Park for her excellent effort in constructing this blog. I must admit that this is a more comprehensive, easy to use and good looking one than the one I offered as a sharing platform.
As the next meeting of the IOPC Funds has been approaching, we, as the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications are intending to submit a proposal briefly offering establishment of the HNS Promotion Group consisting of the trained and certified persons by the Secretariat who are nominated by the interested states that are party to the Fund Convention. You can download the “draft” document from the below link regarding our proposal. (more…)
